Akashi is a repair ship of the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN), and the only one specifically designed as a repair ship from the beginning. A vital component of the IJN, Akashi performed over 40% of the repairs of the entire Combined Fleet while based in Truk. This was possible from the 17 factories within the ship, 5 cranes on her, and a crew of which over half were engineers or technicians. During the course of the war, she was able to repair the capital ships Yamato and Shoukaku. After being damaged in February 1944, she was moved to Palau, where she sank on March 30th of the same year after a US bombing raid . As a repair ship, she was lightly armed, mainly with anti-aircraft guns. She is named after Akashi Strait, which separates the island of Awaji from Honshu. Akashi has a very cheerful personality. She is best friends with Ooyodo as both served as background characters before a full implementation into Kancolle. Akashi repairs other kansumu, and is the only one with this ability. Her greatest hobby is tinkering with equipment to take on better stats. Moreover, she can upgrade some fully improved equipment into completely new and even more powerful equipment. Many of the top tiered equipment are only able to be obtained in this way. She also tends the shop and Large Ship Construction.
KanColle: Kantai Collection
Kantai Collection (艦隊これくしょん Kantai Korekushon, lit. "Fleet Collection", subtitled as "Combined Fleet Girls Collection"), abbreviated as KanColle (艦これ KanKore), is a Japanese free-to-play web browser game developed by Kadokawa Games.[2][3] The game was launched on April 23, 2013.[4] As of April 2015, the game is available in Japan only and has 3 million registered players.[5] The game has developed into a much larger media franchise; various media including multiple manga series and light novels have been released, in addition to an officially licensed tabletop role-playing game. A PlayStation Vita game was released in February 2016,[6] and an anime television series began airing its first season in January 2015,[7] with an animated film[8] released in November 2016 as the sequel to the series.
