The 16th of the Kagerou-class destroyers, Arashi had a fine service record for the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II. Early in the war, she was able to sink a World War I gunboat, the USS Asheville. However, she is better known for single-handily changing the course of the Pacific War. During the Battle of Midway, Arashi was separated from the main carrier strike fleet while on anti-submarine duties. After chasing away USS Nautilus, Arashi hurriedly rejoined the main fleet, which had left the submarine infested area. However, while traveling at maximum speed, she was careless and left a large wake in the water. This wake was seen from the air by bomber squadrons from USS Enterprise and USS Yorktown, who had wasted most of their fuel searching fruitlessly for the main Japanese Carrier Task Force. The bomber pilots guessed correctly that Arashi's wake would lead them to the Japanese Carrier Task Force. Thus, Arashi had the misfortune of sinking four of the navy's capital ships. In 1943, Arashi participated actively during the Solomon Islands campaign. During the Battle of Vella Gulf, Arashi faced a barrage of 36 torpedoes launched within 63 seconds by US destroyers. Arashi would not survive, and sank in the early morning hours of August 7th, 1943. Arashi has an aggressive personality, but is still afraid of the dark and nighttime because she suffers from PTSD from the Battle of Vella Gulf. Instead, she is a morning person, and starts shouting every morning at 5:00 am. She is best friend with her sister Hagikaze. Shigure and Nowaki are also good friends of Arashi's as well.

Kantai Collection (艦隊これくしょん Kantai Korekushon, lit. "Fleet Collection", subtitled as "Combined Fleet Girls Collection"), abbreviated as KanColle (艦これ KanKore), is a Japanese free-to-play web browser game developed by Kadokawa Games.[2][3] The game was launched on April 23, 2013.[4] As of April 2015, the game is available in Japan only and has 3 million registered players.[5] The game has developed into a much larger media franchise; various media including multiple manga series and light novels have been released, in addition to an officially licensed tabletop role-playing game. A PlayStation Vita game was released in February 2016,[6] and an anime television series began airing its first season in January 2015,[7] with an animated film[8] released in November 2016 as the sequel to the series.
