A first-year high school student and the rising star of Elmei Junior and Senior High's girls' basketball team. Her personality and skills have made her incredibly popular both inside and outside of her school, to the point where she's been featured in various magazines. Chinatsu can be quite competitive, as she always arrives to Elmei's gymnasium for in the morning for open practice even earlier than Taiki Inomata, whom she frequently shares the floor and sometimes plays one-on-one games with. The day after she completed her years as a junior high school student, Chinatsu tearfully practiced playing basketball, having barely failed to qualify for nationals. When Taiki reminds her both of said event and how hard she works, Chinatsu makes it her goal to go to nationals despite her family moving overseas. To get around this, she stays at Taiki's house due to their mothers being friends and former teammates. She gives Taiki a matching foot bracelet when she learns that he also plans to go to nationals. In the Ao no Hako one-shot, Chinatsu is the captain of her school's girls' basketball team.

Taiki Inomata, a third-year student in junior high, attends Eimei Academy, an integrated junior and high school with a major sports program. Having started practicing with the high school badminton team, Taiki tries to arrive at school as early as possible to attend open practice. However, despite that, he is always the second one to enter the gymnasium. The first one to arrive is Chinatsu Kano, a first-year student in senior high and Taiki's crush. Being recognized as the rising star of the basketball team, the gap between Chinatsu and Taiki could not be greater. Although Taiki may be decent at badminton, his popularity is nowhere near as Chinatsu's. This makes it even more unlikely for her to ever like him back. But in a strange twist of fate, she ends up living in Taiki's house! With Chinatsu now living with him, Taiki aims to slowly develop his relationship with her. As the saying goes, you miss all the shots you do not take—even if that shot is from across the court, perhaps it has a chance of going in.
