Harumi Taniguchi (谷口 はるみ Taniguchi Harumi?) is Yuzu's best friend and the younger sister of Mitsuko. Harumi is a young girl with long plum (dark auburn in the anime) hair and hazel eyes. Her hair is styled in perfectly straight bangs that cover her forehead, with somewhat longer bangs on the sides of her head and ears. She usually wears her hair tied in a ponytail on the bottom of her head, but sometimes wears her hair loose or even in twintails, which are low-tied and usually fall over her shoulders. She also has a rather big chest, where she hides stuff banned by the school regulations, like makeup and her cellphone. Outside of school like Yuzu She is fashionable, and keeps up with the latest trends, some of which are quite revealing on her (such as displaying her bust, belly etc.) Harumi is a humorous, kind and easy-going girl, and a good friend to Yuzu. She has a similar mentality to Yuzu and enjoys doing things which are prohibited by her school's regulations. She better describes herself as a "gyaru in disguise". She usually avoids trouble. According to Matsuri, that is because she's afraid of being hurt.

During the summer of her freshman year of high school, Yuzu Aihara's mother remarried, forcing her to transfer to a new school. To a fashionable socialite like Yuzu, this inconvenient event is just another opportunity to make new friends, fall in love, and finally experience a first kiss. Unfortunately, Yuzu's dreams and style do not conform with her new ultrastrict, all-girls school, filled with obedient shut-ins and overachieving grade-skippers. Her gaudy appearance manages to grab the attention of Mei Aihara, the beautiful and imposing student council president, who immediately proceeds to sensually caress Yuzu's body in an effort to confiscate her cellphone. Thoroughly exhausted from her first day, Yuzu arrives home and discovers a shocking truth—Mei is actually her new step-sister! Though Yuzu initially tries to be friendly with her, Mei's cold shoulder routine forces Yuzu to begin teasing her. But before Yuzu can finish her sentence, Mei forces her to the ground and kisses her, with Yuzu desperately trying to break free. Once done, Mei storms out of the room, leaving Yuzu to ponder the true nature of her first kiss, and the secrets behind the tortured expression in the eyes of her new sister.
