Hinata Hakamada (袴田 ひなた Hakamada Hinata?) is the smallest of the girls who often talks in a way like "Oh~" or "Ah~" (messed up sound effects) and has a huge collection of plush toys. Despite looking like she is the most innocent and naive of the team, sometimes her behavior suggests otherwise. She has an overprotective, younger sister named Kagetsu who later joins her team. The rival boys basketball team captain Natsuhi happens to have a tiny crush on her, but she never views him in a romantic way.Hinata has silky and light-pink hair extends to her knees and is slightly curly at the end, also has pink-purple irises and white skin. Her most striking feature is the tiny figure, smallest in five girls, despite she's actually the elder sister of Kagetsu, who is one year younger. Although small in size, Hinata is surprisingly well-endowed. In first volume of light novel, Subaru describes Hinata as "a French doll that comes alive". And her appearance in light novel is more matured than her counterparts in animation and comic adaptations.Generally, Hinata is a sweet and innocent girl. Similar to Maho, she is outgoing, energetic and happy-go-lucky, processing a rather bizarre way of thinking. But comparing with Maho, Hinata is very well-behaved. Hinata also processes traits of "naturally dull", being air-headed in most occasions. Hinata views Subaru as a big-brother-like figure, and doesn't mind making physical contacts with him (also partly for she's too air-headed), as seen she loves hugging him and being carried on his back, and her "Koala Attack" of fan-service, even wants to sleep with him on same bed. However like all girls in the team, Hinata also has feelings to Subaru, and becomes slightly anxious if Subaru gets too close to other girls, especially in Episode 4 and Episode 7 of first season, she eagerly wants to know if Subaru has feelings to her, when he "confesses" to Airi. Being the elder one of Hakamada sisters, Hinata cares about her little sibling, Kagetsu, very much. She will do anything to make Kagetsu happy as long as she doesn't interfere her personal life.

Hasegawa Subaru enters a basketball club of Nanashiba High School, but the activity of the club gets suspended because the club leader falls in love with an 11 year old daughter of the coaching teacher. Subaru's aunt asks him to coach a basketball club of elementary school girls. At first, he is reluctant to teach small girls, but he devotes himself to the club as he knows the complex circumstances of them.
