Hiro is a year older than Yuno and Miyako and a childhood friend of Sae that lives directly under Yuno's apartment. She boasts a pleasant, motherly demeanor to all of the occupants of the Hidamari Apartments. She will often serve as a guide for the other girls. She loves good food but tends to worry excessively about her weight, causing her to go on periodic diets that backfire due to her sweet tooth. She became a great cook by the end of her first year, due to her desire to support and properly feed Sae. In her second year, the girls started to frequently get together at her apartment, where she will cook for all of them. In the anime, her hair moves on its own and is known to be frizzy in humid conditions.

Yuno has just begun school where she always wanted, Yamabuki High School. She moves out and into an apartment by herself in a complex called Hidamari-so, which is right in front of the school. There, she meets a classmate, Miyako, and a senior student, Hiro. Yuno's days become hectic as she begins meeting the strange artists that live in her complex. Although she's not used to her new life style, she begins to actualize her dream while being with these gentle friends.
