Kanna is from the Battle Spirits Burning Soul anime from the Battle Spirits franchise, a Yugioh-like card game from Bandai. She is the main protagonist's dueling instructor. Even though she looks like a harmless loli, she is a card game genius and when spectating matches she can predict players moves and strategies. Despite her vast knowledge, she isn't very good at playing the game herself because all the variables she thinks about overloads her mind. She plays a purple deck and her strongest spirit is Divine Spirit King Amehoshi No Mikoto. Additionally, her name is a direct reference to a real life military strategist from the Sengoku period.

In the near future, a battle card game called "Battle Spirits" has gained enormous popularity. Players of the game—known as "Battlers"—start duelings everywhere using their color-coded cards with different attributes, creating a "Sengoku (Warring States) period" for the game.
