Kohachi Inugami is a kemono bakedanuki running a kemono detective agency in Tokyo. After meeting Kabane, he took him with him in order to help him find his parents. Inugami is basically a calm person who doesn't like conflict and is kind enough to follow Kabane and the others casually. When he introduces Kabane as a new employee of the Inugami Detective Agency, Shiki and Akira don't seem to fully trust him, but he does not show any interest, saying, "Just get along with them". However, he does not seem to be bad at taking care of them, as he advises Shiki and Akira to also "get along" when Kabane is not around, and calmly confronts Shiki, who has been playing a prank on Natsuha, saying, "You need to be punished for this". He is good at taking care of the children, even helping them in their own various circumstances. As the head of the detective agency, he is good at solving and making sure the job is done right.

When a series of animal bodies that rot away after a single night begin appearing in a remote mountain village, Inugami, a detective from Tokyo who specializes in the occult, is called to investigate. While working the case, he befriends a strange boy who works in the field every day instead of going to school. Shunned by his peers and nicknamed "Dorota-bou" after a yokai that lives in the mud, he helps Inugami uncover the truth behind the killings—but supernatural forces are at work, and while Dorota-bou is just a nickname, it might not be the only thing about the boy that isn't human.

In a quiet rural village, many domestic animals die unnatural deaths in a strange incident. To resolve the incident, an odd-looking man from Tokyo who goes by the name "Inugami" comes to the town to investigate. In the town, he meets a young boy who has a mysterious air about him called "Dorotabou."
