Mahiru/Shin'ya Banba (番場 真昼・真夜) is a former student of the Black Class who was in a competition with the other students of that class who were trying to kill Haru Ichinose where the reward is anything what that assassin may want. However, she didn't want/need anything as a reward, because Mahiru wanted to turn Haru's phone strap into a "relic", which required killing her. She suffers from what is supposed to be dissoactive personality disorder, where she has two different personalities. As Mahiru, she is a shy and timid girl who often has troubles speaking for herself. She is easily subject to bullying, and is often defenseless. However, when the sun sets, Mahiru's alternate personality, Shinya Banba, appears. Shin'ya is the complete opposite of Mahiru, and refers to herself (or even himself) as "ore (俺)", which is a rather rough masculine way when referring to oneself. Shinya has an aggressive and borderline insane appearance.

Tokaku Azuma has just transferred to the elite Myoujou Academy, a private girls' boarding school. But there's a catch: she, along with 11 of her fellow students in Class Black, is an assassin taking part in the challenge to kill their sweet-natured classmate, Haru Ichinose. Whoever succeeds will be granted their deepest desire, no matter the difficulty or cost. However, each assassin only gets one chance; if they fail to kill her, they will be expelled. Despite the extraordinary reward, Tokaku decides to take a different course of action. Though Haru is her target, the young assassin soon finds herself drawn to the very girl she is supposed to kill.
