Punpun is a socially awkward young boy whose age of innocence ends with his parents' divorce. Punpun is most often depicted as a bird, although he is also shown in the other forms. When he is feeling confused about life or depressed he consults "God" using a chant his uncle taught him. As he continues to mature and interact with people around him as the average boy would, such as dealing with crushes and getting into mischief with his classmates, he begins to learn how crushing and harsh reality can be, and struggles to find his purpose in the world.
