Ruri Gokou, also known by her online handle Kuroneko, is an underclassman, and later girlfriend (albeit shortly), of the series protagonist, Kyousuke Kousaka. She has chuunibyou delusions of greatness, often dressing in elaborate gothic lolita style clothes, similar in style to those worn in her favourite anime, Maschera: Lament of a Fallen Beast. In her spare time, she draws doujinshi and later applies these skills to producing visual novels. She is first introduced when she attends a meetup for the otaku group Otaku Girls Unite which series' female protagonist, Kirino Kousaka, also attends. She struggles to speak to the other participants but meets with Kirino after the event is over. Over time, the pair form a friendly rivalry, initially over their taste in anime which later develops into a less light hearted conflict over Kirino's brother, Kyousuke. Ruri also befriends the otaku group's leader, Saori Makishima, as well as some of Kirino and Kyousuke's other friends. At home, Ruri looks after her two younger siblings, Hinata and Tamaki, as her parents are often away long-term due to work. Despite her chuunibyou nature, she acts mature around her sisters and takes diligent care of them. In her school life, she is fairly shy and struggles to make many friends with her classmates, in part due to her over-confident and arrogant chuunibyou persona. However, she does manage to befriend her classmate Sena Akagi after they both join the Games Research Club.
