The historical destroyer Samidare committed friendly fire against Hiei and collided with Shiratsuyu, giving her the in-game personality trait of klutziness. For example, in her Christmas 2015 and Valentines 2016 voice lines, she is heard dropping a cake. In fanon however, Inazuma far overshadows her in this regard, so she tends to be more the quiet "beautiful hair" girl. Occasionally though, she's shown causing trouble for Hiei. Historically, Samidare rescued the survivors from Yuubari, so the two are frequently depicted together, often in a big sister/little sister or romantic relationship.

Kantai Collection (艦隊これくしょん Kantai Korekushon, lit. "Fleet Collection", subtitled as "Combined Fleet Girls Collection"), abbreviated as KanColle (艦これ KanKore), is a Japanese free-to-play web browser game developed by Kadokawa Games.[2][3] The game was launched on April 23, 2013.[4] As of April 2015, the game is available in Japan only and has 3 million registered players.[5] The game has developed into a much larger media franchise; various media including multiple manga series and light novels have been released, in addition to an officially licensed tabletop role-playing game. A PlayStation Vita game was released in February 2016,[6] and an anime television series began airing its first season in January 2015,[7] with an animated film[8] released in November 2016 as the sequel to the series.
