Shad is a young scholar Link encounters on his journey. His father was a scientist who studied the Oocca, an ancient sky people. While furthering his deceased father's research, Shad became a member of the Resistance, an underground faction loyal to the Royal Family of Hyrule. During Link's quest, Shad plays a crucial role. Once Link returns with the Ancient Sky Book from the Hidden Village, Shad is able to read the book and chants a spell of ancient sky beings. Shad is distraught after it seems to have no effect, but it accidentally restores power to the Dominion Rod that Link possesses, enabling him to find sky writing scattered across the land. Shad is able to complete the spell and restore access to the broken Sky Cannon, which allows him to travel to the City in the Sky. Although Shad is saddened at being unable to travel to the City in the Sky, he remains very grateful towards Link for allowing him to pursue his father's studies as far as he was allowed to.
