Tarumi is Hougetsu Shimamura's childhood friend who she reconciled during winter break. Tarumi has a long brown hair and is often seen with a scarf throughout the anime, most likely because of the winter season. She has a gentle look on her face and is easily excited, which Shimamura often finds comparing her and Adachi. Tarumi is a self-proclaimed delinquent and can be seen strolling around town. She has a talent on painting shown when she painted Shimamura in great detail during their second year Summer break and was revealed to have practiced doing so since when she saw Shimamura during the last winter. Tarumi has a great attachment to Shimamura and is implied to have romantic feelings towards her as her contacting Shimamura is a frequent occurrence during her free time. This implication was also backed when she showed a dejected attitude during her phone call with Shimamura when she asked her to go to the second summer festival with her in which she rejected as she already has further plan with Adachi.

The second floor of the gym―this was where we always met. It was class time, but of course, there weren't any classes going on in a place like this. This was where Shimamura and I became friends. We hung out here―talking about TV shows and cooking, playing some ping pong... This is where we fostered our friendship. Keeping my head propped against the wall, I let out a small sigh. What was this feeling? Yesterday, I'd dreamt of me and Shimamura kissing. Not that I'm like that. I'm sure Shimamura isn’t either. It’s not even something worth repeating myself about, but really, it’s not like that. It's just that when she hears the word "friend," I want her to think of me first. That's all.
