Tonpa (トンパ, Tonpa) is the self-proclaimed Rookie Crusher of the Hunter Exam. Tonpa is examinee #16 in the 287th Hunter Exam and examinee #36 in the 288th Hunter Exam. Tonpa is a short, fat man with tan skin, brown hair, a large nose, and thick eyebrows. He wears a large, blue v-neck shirt, with a white symbol resembling a lowercase "ｉ" on its right side, over a matching pair of light, blue-grey sweats. He often carries a satchel. After attempting to pass the extremely difficult Hunter Exam several times, Tonpa began to enjoy the failures of newbies, to the point he actively began to try to crush their ambitions at the cost of never passing the exam himself. He is so fascinated by his hobby that he does not hesitate to put the candidates in potentially lethal situations. However, despite the fact that he enjoys crushing the hopes and dreams of Hunter examinees, he seemed to be slightly worried when Killua drank what he thought to be a lethal dose of laxatives. This shows that despite his faults Tonpa has some level of standards and does not want to kill fellow examinees. He puts up a friendly facade to earn the trust of rookies, and then deceive and manipulate them into failing.
Hunter x Hunter
Hunter x Hunter is set in a world where Hunters exist to perform all manner of dangerous tasks like capturing criminals and bravely searching for lost treasures in uncharted territories. Twelve-year-old Gon Freecss is determined to become the best Hunter possible in hopes of finding his father, who was a Hunter himself and had long ago abandoned his young son. However, Gon soon realizes the path to achieving his goals is far more challenging than he could have ever imagined. Along the way to becoming an official Hunter, Gon befriends the lively doctor-in-training Leorio, vengeful Kurapika, and rebellious ex-assassin Killua. To attain their own goals and desires, together the four of them take the Hunter Exam, notorious for its low success rate and high probability of death. Throughout their journey, Gon and his friends embark on an adventure that puts them through many hardships and struggles. They will meet a plethora of monsters, creatures, and characters—all while learning what being a Hunter truly means.
