The Mizune Family (ミズネ ファミリー, Mizune Famirī) is a family of short, mouse-themed Witches who allied with Medusa's Faction during Asura's revival. They were tricked by Eruka Frog, who convinced them their eldest sister was killed by the DWMA when the real culprit was Medusa Gorgon. Under Medusa's command, they carried out missions of infiltration, espionage, and sabotage.he majority of each of the five (formerly six) sister's form is concealed under a rather large black cloak, embellished with numerous vertical white stripes around its exterior and white lining that extends from around the nose downward, until reaching the ground. Each of their hats reinforces their mouse theme, featuring two curved extensions from the brim forming ears and rounded eyes, while the peak acts as the mouse's nose. They are all demonstrated to be relatively small, appearing more like children than adults. What little that is displayed of their faces depicts them with narrow closed eyes, a big grin, buck teeth, and short pink hair that frames either side of their face. When disguised as a tourist at the Runaway Express's train stop in the Sahara Desert, one member of the Mizune wears a dark gray cloak covering her entire body save for part of her face, keeping her eyes in shadows. Under her cloak, she carries a dark tan bag full of Eruka Frog's Tadpole Bombs.Instead of using normal speech, each Mizune utters a "chi chi" (チューチュー, chū chū) sound, which describes the squeak sound a mouse makes in Japanese. Despite this, there seems to be no language barrier between them and anyone they communicate with, as they can hold normal conversation with others just fine.

Death City is home to the famous Death Weapon Meister Academy, a technical academy headed by the Shinigami—Lord Death himself. Its mission: to raise "Death Scythes" for the Shinigami to wield against the many evils of their fantastical world. These Death Scythes, however, are not made from physical weapons; rather, they are born from human hybrids who have the ability to transform their bodies into Demon Weapons, and only after they have consumed the souls of 99 evil beings and one witch's soul. Soul Eater Evans, a Demon Scythe who only seems to care about what's cool, aims to become a Death Scythe with the help of his straight-laced wielder, or meister, Maka Albarn. The contrasting duo work and study alongside the hot headed Black☆Star and his caring weapon Tsubaki, as well as the Shinigami's own son, Death the Kid, an obsessive-compulsive dual wielder of twin pistols Patty and Liz. Soul Eater follows these students of Shibusen as they take on missions to collect souls and protect the city from the world's threats while working together under the snickering sun to become sounder in mind, body, and soul.
